    Join the ULI North Texas Women's Leadership Initiative (WLI) on Thursday, April 4th for an overview and tour of the Northside Development at UTD! Attendees will hear from project leaders at Wynne/Jackson, Inc., Architecture Demarest, Keaton Interiors, and Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions on key features of this luxury student housing community which occupies over 13 acres of land and includes two four-story buildings with 20K square feet of retail space. The community includes a generous amenity package with a resort-style pool and lounge area, 24-hour fitness center, study rooms, and a 24-hour computer center and coffee bar.

    Speakers

    Emily Demarest

    Architecture Demarest, L.P.

    Emily is the partner in charge of Quality Control and Production and the leader of the Philadelphia office of Architecture Demarest. Emily joined AD in 2013 after honing her craft in New York City and Philadelphia. Before joining AD, Emily gained experience in the planning, design, and construction of many large and small scaled hospital and aviation projects in the northeast. She now leads her team of talented architects and designers in Healthcare, Multi-family, Mixed Use, Student Housing and Education (higher-ed and k-12) projects. Throughout her career, she has specialized in fast-track, time-sensitive projects and leverages BIM technology to achieve these tight schedules. Emily graduated from The Pratt Institute with a Bachelor of Architecture and is a registered architect in Pennsylvania and New York. She is active with Women in Architecture and PATINA, a collaboration of women architects and students at CHAD. She also serves as the secretary for the Kensington Community Food Co-op board and the Philadelphia Midwife Collective board.

    Brent Miller

    Principal, Wynne/Jackson, Inc.

    Mr. Miller is a Vice President and Principal of Wynne/Jackson, Inc. He joined Wynne/Jackson in 2002 after spending three years with Archon Group, a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs. At Wynne/Jackson, Mr. Miller’s responsibilities include sourcing as well as underwriting new acquisitions, coordinating the closing of new deals, negotiating loan documents along with numerous other agreements, managing lender relationships, and providing asset management and financial oversight of Wynne/Jackson projects. Mr. Miller graduated Magna Cum Laude from Baylor University in 1999 with a BBA degree in finance. As a junior (in the top 5% of his class), he became a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international scholastic honor society for students in business. Mr. Miller is a licensed real estate salesman, CCIM designee, member of the Urban Land Institute and member of the Transit Oriented Development Council of the ULI North Texas District. As an Associate with Archon Group, Mr. Miller consistently asset managed over fifteen assets ($150 million) at a time in the multibillion-dollar Whitehall Street Real Estate Fund including the Philadelphia market, Archon’s hotel portfolio and the Whitehall Industrial portfolio. During his career, Mr. Miller has been engaged in the acquisition, development, consulting, asset management and disposition of more than $1 billion in real estate projects including hotels, industrial buildings, retail centers, office buildings, self-storage facilities and residential communities.     Joshua Smith

    Senior Vice President, Hunt Companies, Inc

    Josh Smith currently serves as Senior Vice President of the Campus Solutions division of Balfour Beatty Investments. He has led the financing and development of over $500M in public/private partnerships with colleges and universities throughout the country. His responsibilities include new business development, crafting financing and development solutions and overall marketing and branding strategy for the division. He has a bachelors degree in business from Oklahoma State University and a Masters in Real Estate from the University of Texas Arlington.

    Michael Jackson

    Principal, Wynne/Jackson, Inc.

    Michael C. Jackson Mr. Jackson joined Wynne/Jackson in 1997 following successful careers as both a tenant representative for a national corporate real estate services company and as a commercial real estate appraiser. As a partner in Wynne/Jackson, Mr. Jackson oversees new project acquisition, asset disposition, site analysis, homebuilder relationships, market analysis and project marketing. He has been heavily involved in the acquisition, planning, financing, and sale or lease-up of Wynne/Jackson projects including numerous large master-planned communities, student housing and commercial projects. He is currently overseeing several new development opportunities for Wynne/Jackson. EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS Mr. Jackson graduated in 1989 from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Political Science. Mr. Jackson is a licensed real estate salesman, member of the Urban Land Institute, 2014-2016 Chairman of the ULI North Texas District Council, current Chair of the Governance Committee of the North Texas District Council, past Chair and current member of the ULI Small Scale Development Council, and Chairman of Sky Ranch at Ute Trail (Sky Ranch Camps - Lake City, Colorado). BACKGROUND Prior to joining Wynne/Jackson, Mr. Jackson worked as a tenant representative with Fischer & Company focused primarily on national accounts such as Northern Telecom, First Data Corporation, and Fujitsu. In addition to performing extensive market studies in over twenty-five cities nationwide, Mr. Jackson was also involved in tenant space planning, portfolio analysis, and economic feasibility studies. Prior to working with Fischer & Company, Mr. Jackson was a commercial real estate appraiser for five years doing work primarily for financial institutions and the RTC in Texas, New England, Tennessee and California. Michael, his wife Kathy, and their 3 children live in University Park and attend Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Corporate Overview Wynne/Jackson is a real estate development firm with a diverse background and a proven track record of successful developments and engagements over its near 35 year history. The principals have developed properties worth in excess of $1.5 billion, including over 12,000 residential lots, and have provided asset and property management, leasing, marketing, and consulting services on over $1.5 billion of real estate developments and projects. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Wynne/Jackson has operated on a regional basis throughout Texas and adjoining states.
